I hope I can keep this up!

Two things I want to keep doing this semester: blogging and running. It's easy while I don't have classes or homework or other commitments but I really want to keep it up!  It doesn't sound like much but I ran a mile yesterday and didn't stop! Now I just need to be able to run 12 more!

Today I watched a cute movie. It's not the best movie I've ever seen but I love the cooking and blogging in it. It's called Julie and Julia.  It's a movie based on the blog of a lady named Julia who hated her job and needed something to give meaning to her life. She cooked her way through Julia Child's cook book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. The kitchen below is a recreation of Julia Child's kitchen and it's gorgeous!

I'm also playing mom this week to my two sisters, complete with an SUV with those sports stickers on the back to take them places. I wanted to do something fun with them so I took them to a cute cupcake store in Indianapolis that I had heard about from my friend. She said it was "your type of place" because of the decorations on the inside. She was SOOO right!

cross training

my mom and I found out we get free aerobics/spinning/pilates classes at our gym so she signed us both up to do the 8:30 am spinning class. I have never been to one, only seen them on tv. I got a bike in the back and still got called out by the instructor BY NAME "Amy, how ya doin back there?" so embarrassing.

my sister has been begging me for a movie and popcorn day, so we're bringing out the zebra snuggies and watching Mama Mia. and I'm going to knit some scarves for my empty etsy shop!

It's almost 45 degrees so I'm gonna guess we won't have a white Christmas, but I still love this from Anthropologie!

New Design!

I think I like this look. I meant to save a screen of my old layout but I forgot. I may change the look before winter break is over though. For now, I've gotta finish making my ugly xmas sweater for tomorrow! [pictures will be posted when I get back to school because I forgot my camera cord :(  ]

Finally done

My marathon studying sessions are finally over! My last final, my accounting final, was at the end of finals week: a good and bad thing. Good because I needed the extra time to study, but bad because there were so many more fun things to do!

Plans for break:
  • blog makeover for Life's An Adventure
  • knit things for my etsy store
  • make my mom's digital scrapbooking etsy store
  • train for the mini marathon

I'm pretty excited to get started!

Fail.

It's been almost two months since my last post. Major fail. And of course I pick the weekend b efore finals to start back up...But, I have some cute store fronts to share! I went to Louisville, KY for my business frat's banquet and had some time before it started to walk around. We went to a stretch of road called Bardstown Road. It's about 40 miles long, but we picked a cute area near the hotel to walk around. Here are some of my favorite store fronts. ( I wish I had the guts to ask if I could take pictures on the inside because these stores were adorable!)

I will be posting more once I'm on winter break!

My summer "vacation"

I know it's way late, but I just got picnik premium and I love playing with it. This picture is from the Findlay Market in Cincinnati. We went there last summer and had to go back. I love these flowers. I want my future house to have these gorgeous flower things (I'm sure there's a word for them...).

Pretty Package Exhange {update}

A while back I posted about the pretty package exchange hosted by oh, hello friend. I didn't realize at the time I signed up that I would be in the midst of moving home for two weeks and then moving into my apartment. It was a crazy time! I looked at the calendar, and realized it was time to send my package. After seeing all of the packages on the flickr group, I wish I had been able to put more time into my package :( I kept calling my mom to see if my package had arrived, and the other day she said it had. I was so excited, but I'm living an hour and a half away from my family and it was going to be a while until I got the package. Luckily, my brother went to a concert in Chicago with his friend and stopped at home on his way back. He was nice enough to bring me my package and I picked it up from him this morning! I was so excited to open it!!

My partner, Erinn, from Clear Pink did an amazing job! Thank you so much :)

Ohh senior year, I love you already

I moved into my apartment on Monday.

I.LOVE.IT.

I have lived in the dorms the previous three years, and I've had enough of them! It's so nice to be able to decorate and have a full kitchen. Once we get things settled, I will take some pics and post them on here. I think it will end up pretty cute.

On a different topic, before summer school was over, I went fishing with some friends at Lake Monroe. We got up super early (5ish AM!) and drove around forever trying to find a spot to go fishing. We ended up having to stop at a little gas station to ask where we could find a public dock to fish off of. We didn't end up catching any fish, but it was sooo much fun.

Done with summer school!!!

The weather couldn't be any better here in Indiana today. It's gorgeous! Anyways...I just took my last summer school final and now I get a whole 2 weeks of summer vacation. I was going through my usual blog reads, and I saw on oh, hello friend a gorgeous quote picture. I followed the link and found several more that are soo perfect. As begin my senior year in a few weeks, this one def. applies!

Furniture DIY

I l-o-v-e turning old furniture into cute, new, modern looking furniture. Although I've only done one project, I have quite a few ideas for future projects. If I didn't already have a desk for my apartment, I would definitely add this desk DIY project to the list!

Coupons and their best accessory: coupon book!

I am going to have to act like a grown up soon when I move into my apartment. This means clipping coupons. If you know me, you know I can't just have a plain coupon holder! I am loving this coupon holder I found at Laa766's etsy shop.

I am in college, therefor, I need this print from rollandtublepress !

July 30, 2009

Add this to the "to-do" list

If I have time when I go home (after summer school's done) I am going to try to make these chairs!
These chairs were at a Mexican restaurant at Lake James, IN. Now I just need to find crackle paint and some chairs!

July 29, 2009

My first 'before & after'

Last summer I was looking around for furniture at Goodwill and saw this table for $4.99. I painted it with a few coats of white paint and used some gift wrap that I ordered from Whimsy Press. I used Mod Podge to cover the gift wrap and then used polyeurothane to cover the Mod Podge. It was so much fun but took a while because I had to sand the whole table by hand.

I wanna make these!!

So freaking cute! I am totally making them when I go home. They are from the City of Dionne and are just one tablespoon of cake mix per cupcake.

wanna smile?

Watch this video. I love this kid! It was on Perez and it is the best thing ever. I wish I could dance like this kid.

blast from the past

I've seen these pictures pop up onto a few blogs, so I checked out the rest of the pictures, and I love them all!

Here is my fave:

jasonepowell has found pictures from the past and went to their location to capture the changes that have taken place since the original photo was taken. This picture is at the Thomas Circle in Washington D.C. The best thing about this picture, is that the lady actually took her rabbit on a walk with a leash. So cute!

July 22, 2009

Good morning everyone! It's pouring rain today, but (I know this is nerdy) I just got a new umbrella so I'm kind of excited to try it out!

Well, I made some coffee, started to read my fave blogs, and came across a Lovely Package Exhange on oh, hello friend. I am SOOO excited to do this! I just got a package the other day and I was so excited to see what kind of packaging it came in so this is perfect for me. Make sure to check it out and sign up!

Awww

I got back this morning and checked my mail. I had TWO surprises waiting for me! The first was this note from my little 6-yr old sister. I love it!
The second surprise was that my earrings had arrived! They are my first etsy purchase and I love the packaging!
I love the little extra touch of the ribbon, sticker, and library card note. They make it fun to open!
They both came individually wrapped in light pink tissue paper.

Overall, a pretty good day!!

Happy National Daiquiri Day!

Today, July 19th, is National Daiquiri Day! I found this amazing recipe on Apartment Therapy. Once I move out of my dorm room, it is on the top of my list of things to make!

July 15, 2009

Impulse purchase...oops!

I just opened my email from etsy that highlights cool shops and I saw some amazing earrings that are reasonably priced. I was looking through the shop and found some earrings that are PERFECT! I shouldn't have bought them, but I had to. The shop is Lara Lewis, and it has so many amazing pieces of jewelry set in vintage metal. Go check it out! Her shipping is reasonably priced too!

In other news, I am done with my insanely busy class and I have so much more time to do the things I want before school starts up again in late august. I currently have nothing in my own etsy shop and that NEEDS to change!!

June 25, 2009

Ok seriously...

I need to get to work. Nap done, visited my friends, and now I'm looking at blogs. Thank you procrastination. To delay the homework just a few more minutes longer, I have to share with you my new love: David Fullarton's art.

This stuff is great! I saw his office collection posted on whatpossessedme.com and had to check this stuff out. Please please go look at it all if you want a good laugh!

Ok, enough procrastination.

Hello weekend!

It's the weekend (for me anyways). My classes are done for the week but that, in no way means that I don't have a ton of homework to do. For some reason I chose to take a class that jams a whole semester of cost accounting into an 11 day, 3 1/2 hour a day class. We still have basically the same amount of homework, quizzes, and tests, but just packed into 2 1/2 weeks. So...after I get done with this insane class, I will be blogging much more!

A few things I wanted to quickly post:

This past weekend was Father's day and since my dad loves to grill, I got him a jalepeno popper grill thing from Williams Sanoma. They tasted great, but next time I think we should try it with a pepper that isn't so spicy! The filling we used was a mixture of cream cheese, onion salt, chopped garlic, and bacon pieces. YUM

For Father's day dinner, we cooked up some ground lamb from the farmer's market into kabobs and I made homemade pita bread to eat them on. It took all afternoon to make everything, but it was definitely worth it.

We also made homemade ice cream while I was home. I found the ice cream maker in the garage, cleaned out the moths (literally!) and made some delicious ice cream with my little sister. We put in crushed Oreos and that chocolate shell stuff.

In case you haven't seen the Taylor Swift rap video, PLEASE go to CMT.com and watch it. It's my new favorite thing. Fave line: "I knit sweaters, yo." hahaha

Last thing before I take a nap and then begin the copius amounts of homework:

This picture, along with 14,499 others have been scanned into a collection posted on IU's library website. When I get more time, I really want to dig into them and see what's there. Here's the backstory...

"Charles Weever Cushman, amateur photographer and Indiana University alumnus, bequeathed approximately 14,500 Kodachrome color slides to his alma mater. The photographs in this collection bridge a thirty-two year span from 1938 to 1969, during which time he extensively documented the United States as well as other countries."

If you have a few minutes, check them out!

Enjoy the weekend!

The 'Will

I can't wait for tomorrow! Hopefully the tornado that I am hiding in the basement from right now doesn't ruin my plans. I just finished the first summer session of classes and I seriously have never studied so much in my life. I think the second session of classes will be a good breather for me. Anyways, this means I don't have to study this weekend (!!) and I will be going to the farmer's market in the morning (if it's not still raining). Then, I'm going to Goodwill to hit up the storewide 50% off sale. I scoped out the store today and found the PERFECT kitchen table and it comes with 5 cushiony chairs and tomorrow it will be only $25! There may also be a visit to Anthro if I get over to that side of town. Aaaah can't wait!! I will be posting pictures when I go back to school because I left my camera cord in my room.

Being a townie :)

Good morning! Before I head to the library to study for my accounting exam (that my teacher said she is making "hard") I had to stop by the farmer's market! I felt like such a weirdo taking pictures...so I only took one at the actual market.

Here's what I got: Beautiful Strawberries (I wasn't going to get any because they are SO expensive, but I heard a lady when I was leaving say that they are almost out of season!)
And some great butter lettuce and a cucumber from an Amish farm.
After the farmer's market, I walked over to Bloomington Bagel which was just across the road. I got an asiago bagel with smoked gouda and artichoke cream cheese. Thank goodness this is not close to where I live!
One last thing, I signed up to complete product surveys at the Pine Cone Research website. I saw the link on a blog and the lady said it was legit. I had my doubts, but signed up anyways. I've been doing the surveys since January of this year and I get paid $3 for each one I complete. I have deposited the checks and had no problems! I have also had the opportunity to test out products which I think is sooo cool. I can't say what products they were, but it was a lot of fun. Well, they are growing and need more survey takers! The surveys take about 20-30 minutes and you get paid $3 bucks every time! They just mail the checks right to you after you complete the survey.

Here's some info from the email:

"Do you know of households that would like to join the PineCone Research Panel? If so, please FORWARD A COPY of this email to each household you would like to refer so that they may click on the registration link shown below. That household should complete the registration form themselves and submit it. REMEMBER THAT ONLY ONE PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD MAY REGISTER. Multiple registrations of the same Household will void all registrations."

Here is the link to the registration:

Ok, I've procrastinated enough! Off to the lib!

Tomorrow I am heading to the farmer's market and will hopefully post some pictures!

had to

this picture Toast sent in an email today is the epitome of summer.

midterms week is over!

well...I don't know if anyone reads this blog, but if you do, I apologize for the lack of postings! I really hate following a blog and then all of a sudden they just stop blogging! I don't even have a good reason for the hiatus. I'm back at school for the summer and all the studying was a little overwhelming. This weekend I'm heading back to Indy to help with my brother's graduation party. Mom: stop freaking out!

Anyways, I was looking for a couple of cute stores to stop into when I go home and I found a link to a flickr stream of the Girly Chic Boutique in Broadripple.

I think I've been here before...but there are so many cute shops like this in broadripple, so I may be getting it mixed up with the others. Every little picture is a piece of eye-candy! Gorgeous!

Green your...sofa?

With Earth Day last week, everyone was talking about how to become more "green." Well...here's my contribution! I LOVE this grass couch. The only downside would be trimming it! Readymade had an online article about how to grow your own, but unfortunately it looks like it is no longer available on their website. I'm sure it's similar to a Chia Pet :)

Rain and lightning!

It's raining and gross outside so I'm blog-hopping tonight on my night off of work. I have been thinking about re-upholstering some Goodwill chairs to use in the apartment I'll be living in this fall. The video below from ReadyMade just sealed the deal and now I've got plans to hit up some Goodwill's in the area!

My "Ikea Name"

I love Ikea almost as much as I love Anthropologie...I NEED to go to the store in Cincinnati as soon as tax season is over! Speaking of tax season, I must apologize for my lack of posting recently. It's harcore tax season right now. We've got two weeks until everything must be finished and it's getting a little crazy at the office! Anyways...like I said, I am obsessed with Ikea and I came across this Ikea Name Generator. You enter your name and out pops a fake Sweedish sounding furniture name. I love it! The one above is the one I made. I'm crossing my fingers that I can convince someone to go with me before I head to school for the summer!

March 13, 2009

carrying on

aaah, time is flying by so fast! it doesn't even feel like the week is over...sadly, my 6-day work weeks start tomorrow and don't end until your taxes are due. it's only a month so I think I can handle it.

I have been teetering on whether to buy this print for what seems like forever. but I love it and all the different colors it comes in!

this print is from cutpastprint over at etsy

room service

I need a desk for my apartment next year and I don't want to buy a cheap piece of junk last minute So...I've been hunting around for some inspiration so I can make my own. I was looking through Metropolitan Home Magazine and I came across an ad for Room Service. It is a brick-and-mortar store with a really cool website. I love the furniture they showed in the magazine so I checked out their office furniture area. I found the cool desks above and I am going to go Goodwill-hunting this summer and see if I can make something similar!

March 3, 2009

yummmm

I am obsessed with Trader Joe's Organic Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper Soup. It sounds like it could be weird, but it is amazing. It's also pretty cheap compared to some other boxed soups I've seen at the grocery store. I went to stock up this weekend because it looked like they were running low...haha Life will be rough when I'm back at school and there isn't a Trader Joe's near by!
p.s. I know the picture quality is horrible, but I wanted to try out my Blackberry's camera feature and there weren't many good pictures of the soup online :)

Volume!

In the winter my hair gets so flat and static-y. I saw the commercial for Tresemme's 24 Hour Body products and I'm kind of really excited to try them tomorrow morning when I'm getting ready for work! I meant to get the mouse and accidentally got the hairspray so I had to go back to Target today and get the mouse too. (I took the littlest sister with me and she was distracting me because she had to go to the bathroom "REALLY REALLY BAD" haha)
